Boxer door mount spare wheel..
A customer requested a door mounted spare and the removal of the spare wheel and associated mechanism from under the van as it was rusted and not working.
The under slung mechanism didnt work so we had to cut the wheel off and then un bolt the complete mechamism and file it in the scrap bin..
We built a steel frame to suit the wheel and made sure it lined up with the framework within the door itself. Spacers were made to bridge the space between the door skin and the inner framework skin to prevent the bolts just crushing the door and give the strength needed to hold the weight of the wheel.
The frame was mounted to the door with m10 bolts and spaced off the door with plastic spacers turned on the lathe, this was necessary as the door curves and would rub on the frame, all mounted with internal fixings for security. Neoprene foam was put on the spacers to seal against wet getting inside and it was also put on the face of the frame to protect the wheel .
The bottom of the frame has facility to stand the wheel when fitting to the door to make lining up the holes much easier so help prevent damage to the wheel face.
A coat of zinc primer, finished in satin black to help prevent rust and the fixings all given a dab of lanoguard grease so they come undone when required.
